The Mascoma Chapter of New Hampshire Audubon held our weekly walk at the Union Village Dam this morning. It rained before and after, but not during the walk - you gotta love this weather!
The hardy souls that braved the threat of rain found 40 species.
Highlights were 4 or 5 Veery sightings. being buzzed by a female Hooded Merganser, and a singing Chestnut-sided Warbler that did a great imitation of a Magnolia or Redstart, until we actually saw it. We also found a Baltimore Oriole nest near the wooden footbridge on the Mystery Trail, and our first Alder FC of the season.
Next Friday will be the final walk of the season - Union Village Dam, E. Thetford entrance (Buzzell Bridge Road), 7-9 AM.
Also, Wednesday, 5/25, we'll sponsor an evening walk at the same location, 5:30 - 7:30 PM
