Dear fellow FileMaker listers...

I wrote an email like this to the list late last year - seeking work. I got some good responses and have been busy on a couple of projects since. However, for the most part they have dried up and I'm looking again.

I'm a FileMaker developer and/or project manager with over 20 years experience (since 1990). I've been active in the FileMaker community in various forms for most of that time and many of you know me, or at least of me. Of course many of you won't. I'm looking for any work that is suited to me. I enjoy and excel at it all.

As far as my skills go, I (and others who know me) consider me exceptional at all things specifically FileMaker. I'm particularly good at design, problem solving and building clean professional functional and user friendly interfaces. I've fully embraced all the modern features of FileMaker (custom functions, custom formatting, local/global script variables, custom menus, web viewers, script triggers, etc). I practice and promote advanced development methodologies such as the data-separation model and anchor-buoy relationship mapping. I understand and implement normalised data modelling and I write clean well structured code.

I am also skilled and experienced in project management. Some of my career I have been a sole trader, some of it I have managed development staff. In that position I have always been skilled at liaising between clients and programmers and ensuring everyone works well together to meet or exceed the client's requirements and expectations.

My experience with other technologies is limited, although this has rapidly improved recently. I have assisted in building a couple of websites and other projects using HTML, PHP, XML, SQL and other technologies. I am by no means an expert in any of these technologies, but I have some proficiency and I am certainly capable of learning whatever I need to bridge any gaps, and where appropriate I have other talent at my disposal (in the form of my own staff) also to bridge any gaps, if required.

One minor caveat: For reasons I won't publicise here, I'm ideally suited to working remotely (from my home office) and that's something that's limiting my options. Unfortunately working full time in your office is not really an option for me, although part time is possible. If working remotely, I have Skype, iChat, phone, fax, a (really) fast internet connection, a Core i7 MacBook Pro (running OSX and Windows) and a 27" display all at my disposal, and I've had plenty of successful experience (and good references from) working remotely, in the past.

If you're reading this, and you think we might be able to help each other then I would very much like to hear from you. Please contact me OFF-LIST at <[log in to unmask]>.

When replying, please DO NOT send your reply to the list!

Sincerely,

David Thorp
