Bruce,
You need to use three periods (...) to search date ranges. So to find everything up to April 14, your search string would be ...4/14/11. Same with a between range, like 4/2...4/10/11. Pretty cool now too, you can search the month of May just by 5/2011, ranges 3/2011...5/2011, and even a year, just 2011.
