This morning Ed Hack and I looked for birds along the Connecticut
River from Kilowatt Park (southern boat launch area) in Wilder north
to the area around Pompy in Norwich. Some highlights follow.
At Kilowatt Park South, ten species of waterfowl included 30 Ring-
necked Ducks, 4 Greater Scaups, 6 Common Goldeneyes and 2 male Red-
breasted Mergansers. Also present today were an immature Bald Eagle, a
Belted Kingfisher, and a singing Carolina Wren. The cormorants present
there yesterday could not be located today.
In the vicinity of Pompy Farms in Norwich, we found a pair of American
Wigeons, 4 Green-winged Teal, 12 Ring-necked Ducks, 3 Great Blue
Herons, and an adult Bald Eagle.
Away from the river, here in Norwich village, 2 Fox Sparrows in the
backyard this morning provided the first sightings of that species for
this spring in that location.
