Habit. Started doing it the other way years ago, and it worked nicely, so I never stopped to ask whether there might be a better way to go about it.

I'm sure we're all familiar with the minimal-thot-required practice of saying "Aha, I've already got something that addresses this problem, I'll just copy it over rather than have to think up something new." I do that a lot.
