Today Ed Hack and I looked for birds along the Connecticut River and
in nearby waters from Kilowatt Park in the Wilder section of Hartford
(VT) north to the area around the Ompompanoosuc River in Norwich.
Seven species of waterfowl included several Wood Ducks above Wilder
Dam, a Green-winged Teal to the south of the mouth of the
Ompompanoosuc River, and a Common Goldeneye above the Wilder Dam.
Other waterfowl today included Canada Geese, Mallards, Hooded and
Common Mergansers. A highlight among landbirds encountered today was a
Winter Wren well seen in brush along the powerlines close to the river
at Kilowatt Park in Wilder.

Later, towards dusk, a Fox Sparrow appeared here in the backyard in
Norwich village.

George
