As others have said, if you have the money for it, having a dedicated
server is more robust and faster.

The only thing I'd add, though: having FileMaker Server doesn't
automatically give you backup security. You still have to design your
backup strategy around the notion that files may get corrupted, and
having a months' worth of corrupted backups is just as useless as
having a corrupted working file.

Server v11 has decent inbuilt tools to veryify database (and backup) integrity.
