After last nights storm, I had hoped for some migrants along the river,
particularity shorebirds.
However a female Blackpoll Warbler during breakfast made me think more
had arrived.

Sure enough:
An hour near our house produced 8 warbler species, at least two species
which have not been found breeding in Norwich.
This is also about the same date migrants arrived last fall.

Highlights

Location: Beaver Pond-home
Observation date: 8/10/10
Notes: cold front in the late afternoon yesterday, lots of rain,
still wet and foggy
Number of species: 23

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - Sphyrapicus varius 1
Downy Woodpecker - Picoides pubescens 1
Hairy Woodpecker - Picoides villosus 2
Eastern Wood-Pewee - Contopus virens 1
Red-eyed Vireo - Vireo olivaceus 4 feeding young amidst a flock
of other birds
Nashville Warbler - Vermivora ruficapilla 1 (now genus Oreothlypis)
Chestnut-sided Warbler - Dendroica pensylvanica 3
Black-throated Green Warbler - Dendroica virens 1
Blackburnian Warbler - Dendroica fusca 2
Blackpoll Warbler - Dendroica striata 1
Black-and-white Warbler - Mniotilta varia *5*
American Redstart - Setophaga ruticilla 1
Common Yellowthroat - Geothlypis trichas 1
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - Pheucticus ludovicianus 1

Looking for more migrants later in the day at ledyard was less productive.
The water was very high and consequently Mallards were the only waterbirds to be found.
However, 2 young mockingbirds made the trip worthwhile.
