This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, July 7th,
2010.
A WORM-EATING WARBLER was reported from Silver Lake in Madison on July 1st,
but has not been reported again. An EVENING GROSBEAK was reported from the
same area, also on the 1st.
An ATLANTIC PUFFIN, a CORY'S SHEARWATER, 7 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 2 SOOTY
SHEARWATERS, 27 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, a NORTHERN GANNET, a ROSEATE TERN,
and 18 COMMON TERNS were seen in New Hampshire waters by a birder on a Whale
Watch cruise on the Granite State out of Rye Harbor on July 3rd. Another
report, but from July 5th, reported 2 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 25 GREATER
SHEARWATERS, and 45 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS all in New Hampshire waters, and
yet another report, but from July 4th that included birds in Massachusetts
waters, reported 9 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 40 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 13 SOOTY
SHEARWATERS, 5 MANX SHEARWATERS, 27 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, 5 NORTHERN
GANNETS, a LEAST TERN, and more than 10 COMMON TERNS.
5 LEAST TERNS, a ROSEATE TERN, and a LAUGHING GULL were all reported from
Hampton Harbor on July 4th.
Birders on a trip up East Inlet Road in Pittsburg on July 1st reported 3
PHILADELPHIA VIREOS, a GRAY JAY, 2 BOREAL CHICKADEES, a TENNESSEE WARBLER, 8
NASHVILLE WARBLERS, 4 NORTHERN PARULAS, 5 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 3 CAPE MAY
WARBLERS, a BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, 9 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, a
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, 5 AMERICAN REDSTARTS,
a MOURNING WARBLER, 3 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, 2 WILSON'S WARBLERS, a CANADA
WARBLER, and 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS. A SPRUCE GROUSE was reported from the same
area during the last week in June.
3 GRAY JAYS, 11 BICKNELL'S THRUSHES, 2 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 27 BLACKPOLL
WARBLERS, 13 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS, 30 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, 2 CANADA
WARBLERS, and 4 BOREAL CHICKADEES were reported from the Caps Ridge and Link
Trails located off of the Jefferson Notch Road in the White Mountains on
July 2nd and 3rd.
A female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen feeding young at a nest site along
the Magalloway River during the last week in June.
2 BOREAL CHICKADEES were reported from Mount Dickey in Waterville Valley on
June 30th.
A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, an ORCHARD ORIOLE, and 2 FISH CROWS were all
reported from Penacook on July 5th.
2 SORAS, 17 VIRGINIA RAILS, and 70 BANK SWALLOWS were reported from the
Trails at Pickering Ponds located off of Pickering Road in Rochester on July
2nd.
