This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, March 24th, 
2010.



The MEW GULL that was sighted on the mud flats at low tide from the Swasey 
Parkway along the Squamscott River in Exeter earlier in March was repeatedly 
seen again in the area during the past weekend. It was often seen near 
Ring-billed Gulls, and was last reported on the 21st from the Swasey 
Parkway.



3 EURASIAN WIGEONS (2 male and 1 female) were seen on Great Bay from Sunset 
Farm in Greenland on March 21st.



A female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen in coastal Rye on March 21st,



A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and 3 SNOW GEESE were seen in fields near the 
intersection of Routes 12 and 12A in Charlestown on March 18th.



10 SNOW GEESE were seen flying near the Comerford Reservoir in Monroe on 
March 20th, one SNOW GOOSE was seen in Stoddard on March 21st, and one was 
seen in Nashua on the 18th.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Pickering Ponds in Rochester on 
March 19th.



A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen in Seabrook, one was seen on Hampton Beach, and one 
was seen in Rye Harbor, all on March 21st.



2 BRANT were seen in coastal Rye, and 3 were seen in Hampton Harbor, all on 
March 21st.



3 GADWALL were seen on Great Bay, and 2 were seen in coastal wetlands in 
south Rye, all on March 21st.



A pair of NORTHERN PINTAILS was seen on Turtle Pond in Concord on March 
20th.



26 LESSER SCAUP were seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on March 
20th.



A PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen on Powder Mill Pond in Hancock during the past 
week.



A pair of AMERICAN WIGEON was seen at Waukewan Inlet in New Hampton on March 
23rd, a pair was seen on Turtle Pond in Concord on the 22nd, 2 were seen on 
Lake Winnisquam on the 21st, and 15 were seen on Great Bay on the 21st.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen in Rumney on March 22nd, one was seen at Surry 
Lake on the 21st, and one was seen at Sunset Farm in Greenland on the 21st.



A hiker on Mount Meader in Evans Notch reported 2 SPRUCE GROUSE, 4 BOREAL 
CHICKADEES, 2 RED CROSSBILLS, 12 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and 2 EVENING 
GROSBEAKS on March 19th.



A FISH CROW was reported from Horseshoe Pond in Concord, and one was seen in 
Durham, both on March 20th.



Over 20 HORNED LARKS were seen at Moore Fields on Route 155A in Durham on 
March 23rd.



20 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen on Gould Road in Bethlehem, and 6 were seen 
in Jefferson, all on March 19th.



2 WINTER WRENS were reported from Hudson on March 21st.



An "IPSWICH" SAVANNAH SPARROW was seen at the Pease International Tradeport 
on March 21st. This species is usually only seen on the immediate coastline.



There have been numerous sightings of PURPLE FINCHES during the past week.



Spring arrivals during the past week, mainly from the southern half of the 
state, included scattered small numbers of TREE SWALLOWS, EASTERN PHOEBES, 
FOX SPARROWS, RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, KILLDEERS, OSPREYS, NORTHERN HARRIERS, 
NORTHERN FLICKERS, and a few MERLINS, PEREGRINE FALCONS, WILSON'S SNIPES, 
PINE WARBLERS, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS, and an EASTERN MEADOWLARK.
