I was picking up my children from the Upper Valley Waldorf School in Quechee
this afternoon around 3PM, and heard this beautiful bird rattling away in a
spruce tree at the edge of the parking lot. I had to see what it was, and
was very pleasantly surprized to find a female white winged crossbill. She was
feeding on some pine cones and was just bubbling away. I watched her with
another parent before the bird flew off. It was nice to see this winter bird
and share the joy of bird watching with another parent. I was disappointed
my children didn't get to see her, but we'll be on the lookout for another
time.
