This fine sunny, cool and clear Saturday morning, 16 intrepid birders scouted Wilson's Landing on the Connecticut River in Hanover, where we enjoyed good views of half a dozen male Wood Ducks, Canada Geese, Mallards, Blue Jay, Robins, Red Winged Blackbirds, Chipping and Song Sparrows plus a soaring and "stooping" Osprey.
Further up river, walking the widely varied habitat of the loop trail at the UVLT/NH Audubon Grant Brook Sanctuary off River Road in Lyme, we enjoyed nearer views of half a dozen male Wood Ducks, plus a busy pair of Hooded Mergansers and more Canada Geese in the bright sunlight. Among other birds seen in the vicinity were a pair of Cardinals, male Pileated Woodpecker, a pair of Hairy Woodpeckers, a half dozen male Redwings serenading their hidden mates, Goldfinch, Black Capped Chickadees, two Phoebes, two Song Sparrows, Grackle, and two Yellow Rumped Warblers. Notably absent were any other warblers, and any thrushes at all, but the waterfowl viewing was great.
