General notes The Texas Language Technology Center (TLTC) is seeking  
a dynamic, creative, self-motivated web/multimedia developer to join  
our team and revolutionize language learning and cultural instruction  
via an Internet-based open sharing initiative, in which high-quality  
software is produced and offered to the language-learning world.
Additional Information
Purpose of position Design and produce Internet-based language  
learning materials incorporating authoritative content, high  
aesthetic values, and motivational learning methodologies for use by  
UT students and the larger Internet-learning world.

Essential functions Design and implement dynamic web interfaces and  
content with html, multimedia, and server-side technologies. Design  
and implement all phases of Internet-delivered software, including:  
Photoshop-based design, QuickTime and Flash-based multimedia, HTML  
and CSS coding, javascript and PHP programming, and MySQL-based data  
management. Interact and cooperate with co-producers, faculty, and  
student technology assistants in development of Internet software.  
Assist with maintenance and re-design of legacy websites.

Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications Bachelor's degree. Three years of experience  
implementing design principles and methods related to Internet-based  
multimedia deployment. Strong graphics skills, including specific use  
of Photoshop for web and multimedia production. Strong knowledge of  
HTML and CSS. Equivalent combination of relevant education and  
experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred qualifications Working knowledge of javascript, Flash,  
QuickTime, PHP, and MySQL. Experience in data analysis and  
programming. Experience developing in a LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP)  
environment. Knowledge of a broad range of instructional and  
developmental technologies. Experience working independently, as well  
as in small software development teams. Knowledge of audio and video  
production and Internet media-deployment techniques. Knowledge of  
video encoding (compression) methodology and practice in a H.264/VP6  
environment, for QuickTime and Flash multimedia deployment. Knowledge  
of website templating techniques. Experience with batch/data  
processing techniques for multimedia and web development. Knowledge  
of instructional design principles. Knowledge of language learning  
methodology related to web-based instruction. Experience working in a  
university setting interacting with faculty and students.

Working conditions Exposure to standard office conditions.
Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation with LCD displays.
Security sensitive; conviction verification conducted on applicant  
selected.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of  
Texas (TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per  
week and at least 135 days in length.
