This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, November 8th,
2007.
A CAVE SWALLOW was seen at Bicentennial Park along Route 1A in Hampton on
November 4th and 5th.
There have been 4 separate GOLDEN EAGLE sightings reported since November
1st, including one seen on Mount Monadnock in Jaffrey on the 4th, one on
Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on the 2nd, one over Airport Road in Swanzey
on the 1st, and one in Walpole near the Connecticut River on the 1st
A probable DOVEKIE was seen during a sea-watch from Little Boar's Head in
North Hampton during inclement weather on November 6th. Also seen were 4
GREATER SHEARWATERS, 6 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, 200 NORTHERN GANNETS, a
COMMON TERN, 149 GREATER SCAUP, 26 AMERICAN WIGEON, and 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS
as well as many more common bird species.
A female HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen in Rye Harbor on November 4th.
A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was seen in Hampton Harbor on November 1st and 2nd.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Durham Town Landing on November
7th, and one was seen at Frost Point at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on
November 4th.
7 NORTHERN SHRIKES were reported since November 1st, including one at the
Exeter Wastewater Treatment Facility and one at the Concord Community
Gardens on Birch Street, both on the 7th, one in Sutton and one at the
Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant, both on the 5th, one in Freemont on
the 3rd, one in Hinsdale on the 2nd, and one in Rumney on the 1st.
PINE GROSBEAKS were reported from several locations during the past week,
including more than 20 seen on Cold Brook Road at Cragged Mountain Farm just
west of Swett Hill Road in Freedom on November 5th, one in Nelson on the
5th, one in Rhododendron State Park in Fitzwilliam on the 4th, one in
Ashland on the 4th, and one on Pack Monadnock on the 2nd.
10 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen in the old orchard on the trails at NH
Audubon's McLane Center on Silk Farm Road in Concord on November 3rd, and
over 40 were seen in a flock along Indian Pond Road in Orford on November
1st.
5 RED CROSSBILLS and a GRAY JAY were seen on Pack Monadnock in Peterborough
on November 4th, and 3 RED CROSSBILLS and 2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were
reported from the summit of Pack Monadnock on November 2nd. A WHITE-WINGED
CROSSBILL was reported from Antrim on November 3rd.
10 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen at the Rochester Waste Water Treatment Plant,
over 40 were seen in Rumney, and one was reported from Durham, all on the
5th. 10 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen in Hinsdale on the 2nd, and 3 were seen at
the Keene Airport in Swanzey and 1 was reported from Hancock, all on the
1st.
2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 270 SNOW BUNTINGS were reported from Hampton Beach
State Park on November 2nd. Approximately 300 SNOW BUNTINGS and 300 HORNED
LARKS were seen in the farm fields of East Conway, off of Route 113 near the
Maine border, on November 4th.
3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen on Bog Road in Penacook on November 4th, nearly
40 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen among a larger flock of blackbirds on River
Road in Walpole, and 3 were seen at the Post Office Fields in Concord, all
on November 1st.
92 RUDDY DUCKS were reported from Great Bay on November 2nd.
3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS were reported from Squam Lake on November 2nd.
A BLACK GUILLEMOT was seen from Hampton Beach State Park on November 2nd.
A male BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen at Shoal Pond, and 7 BOREAL
CHICKADEES were seen at Shoal Pond and Ethan Pond by a hiker on the
Appalachian Trail on November 2nd.
A BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was reported from Derry on November 2nd.
There were several reports of FOX SPARROWS and EVENING GROSBEAKS during the
past week.
