This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, September 
13th, 2007.

A CATTLE EGRET, a GLOSSY IBIS, and 4 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were seen at 
the Rochester Waste Water Treatment Plant on September 12th. Also present 
were a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER, a female NORTHERN 
SHOVELER, and a female NORTHERN PINTAIL. An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 
a possible JUVENILE LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, and 7 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were 
here on the 11th. The treatment plant is gated and the hours of operation 
are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the office and 
be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have to ask 
birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the road. The 
Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not gated, and are 
always open during daylight hours.

3 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, 22 AMERICAN KESTRELS, and a VESPER SPARROW were 
seen at the Keene Airport on September 10th.

An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and 3 RUDDY TURNSTONES were seen at Ragged Neck in 
Rye on September 12th,

An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, 60 KILLDEER, and 14 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen 
at the sod fields on Locke Road in Concord on September 11th.

A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, and 10 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at the Sod Farms 
west of Exit 18 on Route 93 in Canterbury on September 11th.

A HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 2 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, a 
PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 12 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 36 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 20 
SANDERLINGS, 2 DUNLIN, 3 WHIMBRELS, 3 WILLETS, 1300 SEMPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 
68 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, and 500 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS have been reported 
from the Hampton Harbor at low tide and Seabrook Beach at high tide during 
the past week.

A GREATER SCAUP, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, 10 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 50 GREEN-WINGED 
TEAL, a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 20 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, a SOLITARY 
SANDPIPER, 6 TREE SWALLOWS, a MARSH WREN, and 2 YELLOW WARBLER were all 
reported from the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant during the past week.

About 100 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen at the dam on Surry Lake, and another 
group of about 100 was reported from Meredith, all on September 8th.

A VESPER SPARROW, and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW were seen at The Nature 
Conservancy's Lamprey River Preserve in Newmarket on September 11th.

4 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS, 7 GRAY JAYS, over 25 BOREAL CHICKADEES, and an 
AMERICAN PIPIT were all reported from Pittsburg on September 9th.

135 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 WILLETS, 14 SHORT-BILLED 
DOWITCHERS, 40 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were seen in Meadow Pond in Hampton 
on September 6th.

75 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and 6 LESSER YELLOWLEGS were seen in the pools 
located on the west side of Route 1A south of Rye Harbor on September 6th.

HAWK migration is under way with 435 raptors already reported from the Pack 
Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough since September 1st. 
Be sure to visit the observatory to help out with the count!
