This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, August 9th, 
2007.



A WESTERN GREBE was found on Squam Lake on July 21st, and was last reported 
on August 1st. It may still be present. It was most recently found near 
Little Loon and Yard Islands. There is access for canoes and kayaks nearby 
on Route 3, about 1.5 miles east of Holderness, at the Squam Lakes 
Association headquarters. There is a $5 parking fee for non-members.  There 
is access for motorboats at the state launch in Holderness.



A breeding plumage HORNED GREBE continues to be reported from Foss Beach in 
Rye and was last reported on August 7th.



A ROSEATE TERN, 30 COMMON TERNS, 11 GREAT EGRETS, 8 SNOWY EGRETS, 8 
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 300 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 300 SEMIPALMATED 
SANDPIPERS, 17 WILLETS, and 5 WHIMBRELS were all seen in Hampton Harbor on 
August 4th. A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen in the Harbor on the 6th, and 
a LAUGHING GULL was reported on the 3rd.



30 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 10 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 100 LEAST SANDPIPERS, and 25 
KILLDEER were reported from the Little River Salt Marsh, and 3 RUDDY 
TURNSTONES were recorded along the coast, all on August 3rd.



5 WILSON'S SNIPE were seen feeding on the mudflats on Surry Lake on August 
8th.



A juvenile BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen on Mink Brook in Hanover on 
August 7th. 4 adults and a juvenile BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON were seen in a 
shallow tidal inlet on the Piscataqua River located just north of the 
Sprague Energy Avery lane terminal in Newington on July 31st.



A GLOSSY IBIS was seen just south of Rye Harbor on August 3rd.



A pair of MERLINS continues to be seen at the Hanover golf course. To view 
them, drive north out of Hanover on the Lyme Road (Route 10) and park across 
the street
from the Fire Station. Walk out toward the 8th and 15th fairways and listen 
for
their calls.  You may see them flying between the tall pines that line each 
of the fairways.



2 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS were seen on the Rockingham Rail Trail, which 
leaves from the Depot Road parking lot in Windham, on August 7th, and 2 were 
reported from a backyard in Newton on the 6th.



Over 120 BOBOLINKS were reported from the Wallman Conservation Easement in 
Northwood on August 4th.
