Hello,
We do not have a dedicated digital production studio, but have provided
extensive services related to digital recording and have a small place to be
doubled up as a production studio, so let me add some comments in the hope
that they could be useful.

>1) reservation of the studio facility
>a) who controls the keys?
>b) use on first come, first served basis?
>c) evening, multi-day, and weekend reservations and access?
The room is always under our center's contol and basically used on first come,
first served basis. In case the room should be used outside of our regular
office
hours, we usually ask for compensation for whoever comes to open our facility
and help them.
>2) checkout of portable equipment
>a) duration of checkout?
>b) recall procedures?
>c) checkout for local use vs. long-distance (even overseas) travel?
The duration depends on the types of work. For student course assignment, we
usually set up one or two days per week with recommended reservation in
advance. For faculty, we can send equipment even overseas and the usual
duration has been a quarter long. We also practice this checkout procedure
based on the common ground that if someone else needs the equipment with
higher priority or if our language center needs it for any purposes, it should
be
returned. In order to avoid any uncomfortable situation later on, I think it is
important to let the borrower acknowdge this general rule before they get them.
>3) eligible users (of both studio *and* portable equipment)
>a) faculty only?
>b) grad student TAs for teaching?
>c) grad students for course projects?
>d) faculty supervision of grad students necessary?
>e) also undergrads with faculty supervision?!
>f) required training before use?
For students (undergrad and grad), we require their instructor or advisor
endorsement before they check out equipment. We also provide necessary
training before they use our equipment. Regardless of training, I also think it
is
also important to set up a procedure for any loss or damage occurred to
checkout equipment especially if it is a long-term loan. They are more attentive
to the training and might be more careful with the equipment. We are currently
working on it.
I hope it helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have further
questions.
Best,
