We have been doing lots of research and demo testing web cams.
I think it's important to keep in mind the limitations of your
infrastructure when purchasing a camera(s).
The polycom viaVideo (VV) is a desktop unit that appears to be the best
out there ($400), according to the experts that we've been talking to.
Unlike other web cams, the VV has a built in codec to process the image so
it doesn't burden the CPU. And it can maximally transfer at (384kb/s) via
IP. However, if you are talking to someone who's on a 56k modem, the
image is going to be choppy for both of you, no matter what kind of camera
you are using.
Just a few thoughts.
