>Subject: Re: #5566.9 Lab Tracking Software and Procedures (!)
This is in response to a sub-topic within the last posting about
lab tracking -- namely, PRINTING CHARGES.
We charge ten cents per page in the lab, which is where students
print out their work. We have a cash box at the checkout window,
loaded with small change. We empty the box periodically, leaving
less than $10 - usually a $5 and a bunch of ones. It pays for
paper and a portion of the cost for cartridges, but not all.
Any paper that students print and don't want, we reuse (see next
paragraph).
For faculty, who have a separate workspace with computers at
our facility, we put used-on-one-side paper in the default
printer tray. For most purposes, faculty photocopy what they
need from their print jobs, so one-sided recycled paper is
just fine. If they need virgin paper, they have to specifically
select it in the printer dialog box, a step most of them forego
in a mad rush to get the work done. Works great. We save tons
of paper this way.
