The Language Laboratories and Archives of the University of Chicago seeks candidates for the position of Multimedia Specialist.

Duties
Work with an interdisciplinary team of software programmers and faculty to design and produce interactive multimedia programs for foreign language instruction. Perform some managerial and administrative duties related to the functioning of state-of-the-art pedagogical, research and development facilities at the Language Laboratories and Archives of the University of Chicago, including working at the service window of the SS4 site several hours a day. Provide training and support to staff, faculty and students. (AV equipment, multimedia software). Organize seminars and workshops to introduce faculty to new developments in software and multimedia production. Assist in the creation of audio and video programs used for foreign language instruction. Maintain and oversee repair of AV equipment. Design and lay out a newsletter and a website.

Qualifications
B.A. is preferred but A.A. is the minimum requirement. Must have background in computer graphics and illustration. Experience in interface design, multimedia, software development, audio and video recording and editing (analog and digital), desktop publishing and digital photography is also essential. Ability to help visualize, and develop creative concepts for the presentation of foreign language teaching materials is highly desirable. Knowledge of design and layout of print materials is a big plus. Knowledge of HTML or Adobe GoLive is important. Familiarity with a variety of AV equipment will also count in applicant's favor.

Skills
Knowledge of Macintosh OS is required and knowledge of Windows 95/98 is very helpful. Proficiency in several of the following software programs is desirable: FreeHand, Illustrator, Photoshop, QuarkExpress, PageMaker, Premiere, QuickTime, HyperCard, Director, FinalCut, GoLive, and Microsoft Word. Familiarity with audio production (analog and digital) and video production (VHS, U-Matic, Hi 8, and digital), audio and video digitizing, digital editing, and film animation would be very useful. Acquaintance with a foreign language is helpful.

This is a full-time staff position in the Language Laboratories and Archives of the University of Chicago. Salary depends on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefit package is provided.  Applicants should send a resume and cover letter to:
