Subject: [Norwich] Community Orchestra plays FREE concert in Lebanon
To: [log in to unmask]

Come listen to your friends and neighbors in the Upper Valley Music
Center's Community Orchestra play a concert of exciting music, loosely
connected to folk themes, this Sunday, July 19, at 3:30 at the Lebanon
Methodist Church on School Street. It's fun! It's short! It's free!
What could be better? A great way to give children a taste of live
orchestra music.

Pieces range from a Beethoven country dance that demonstrates his
talent for making more than you'd think possible from a simple theme,
to American Leroy Anderson's "Fiddle Faddle," a tumbling, energetic
gallop. An arrangement of a theme from Dvorak's New World Symphony
offers a different tempo, as the Czech composer evokes America in
music. Wild modal harmonies with hints of klezmer wails are just a
part of French composer Camille Saint-Saens' way of painting a Middle
Eastern "Bacchanale."

The orchestra season has been generously sponsored by the Dwinell
Charitable Trust and the Seaton Trust. The players are most grateful
for this opportunity to learn and meet some major challenges tackling
great music. Playing orchestra music is a wonderful team sport!

It's not possible to play the cello perfectly, and that keeps us cello
players humble and fun to be with.
