This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for December 10, 2007 covering the
period December 3 - 9, 2007.

 

Highlights this week include a GOLDEN EAGLE in St. Albans on 12/3, a gray
morph GYRFALCON in South Burlington on 12/4, the HARLEQUIN DUCK present all
week at Shelburne Point, most recently seen 12/9, a PRAIRIE WARBLER in
Poultney on 12/7 at Green Mountain College, a reported YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT
in Burlington 12/9 and a HOARY REDPOLL in Bristol on 12/9.

 

A DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT was seen at Shelburne Point on 12/5.

 

A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was spotted in East Putney on 12/3.

 

NORTHERN SHRIKES were seen in White River Junction, Lyndonville, Montpelier,
East Dorset, West Danville and Hartland, where it plucked a RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCH from a feeder.

 

There were fewer waxwings reported this week:  BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen
in South Burlington, Norwich and Pittsford; CEDAR WAXWINGS were observed in
South Burlington, East Putney and Burlington.

 

A PINE WARBLER was sighted in Waterbury 12/3 - 12/6; one was also spotted in
Middlebury 12/4 - 12/7.

 

CHIPPING SPARROWS were seen in Danby (1) on 12/7 and in Calais (1) on 12/8.

 

A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was spotted in West Danville on 12/4.

 

PINE GROSBEAK and COMMON REDPOLL numbers continue to soar throughout the
state.
