This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for June 23, 2008 covering the period
June 16 - June 22, 2008.  

 

The highlight of the week was the sighting of 17 VIRGINIA RAILS (2 adults
with 7 young, 1 adult with 4 young, 3 adults) in West Rutland Marsh on 6/21.

 

A LEAST BITTERN was spotted at West Rutland Marsh on 6/21.  Nine VIRGINIA
RAILS were spotted at the West Rutland Marsh on 6/22.

 

An AMERICAN WIGEON and 5 ducklings were observed in Addison on 6/22.

 

A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was spotted at West Rutland Marsh on 6/21.

 

A LONG-EARED OWL was observed on Grand Isle on 6/21.

 

A WHIP-POOR-WILL has been singing regularly for the past two weeks around 9
p.m. and 4 a.m. near a Sharon residence.

 

Two TENNESSEE WARBLERS were spotted in Ludlow on 6/20.

 

A new location was discovered for CERULEAN WARBLERS in Milton, where a
singing male was seen and heard on 6/19.

 

A male BLUE-WINGED WARBLER was discovered in a new Brandon location on 6/18,
where a singing male was seen. 

 

Three GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were seen off Gage Road at Dead Creek WMA on 6/21
and 2 were also seen off Farr Cross Road on that date .

 

An ORCHARD ORIOLE was spotted in West Cornwall on 6/17; a male ORCHARD
ORIOLE was seen at Farrell Access, Dead Creek on 6/21 and a pair was seen
feeding young at Farrell Access on 6/22.
