Delayed report from yesterday’s Mascoma Lake trek on rail trail.
A bit of open water at west end of lake on Icehouse Rd. Enjoyed watching a pair of Common Goldeneyes diving and flapping, along with Ring-necked Duck mimicking the male Goldeneye.
The open area at the point heading toward Enfield had a pair of Common Eiders on west side, and on our return a pair of Common Mergansers at the opposite side of point.
Fortunately, had a tattered Peterson guide with me, and Judy to confirm all the splashes of white.
Wish them well for their trip North!
