This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, September 17th,
2012.
A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was reported from NH Audubon's Dahl Sanctuary in North
Conway on September 16th.
A possible CASSIN'S VIREO was seen and photographed in Pittsfield on
September 15th.
A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen in Penacook on September 15th.
A DICKCISSEL was seen in Hampton on September 14th.
A MARBLED GODWIT, 3 RED KNOTS, and 2 FORSTER'S TERNS were seen in Hampton
Harbor on September 16th, and 2 FORSTER'S TERNS and 25 COMMON TERNS were
seen here on the 14th.
A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was seen in Plaice Cove in Hampton on September
14th, and an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was seen here on the 16th.
A CASPIAN TERN, a FORSTER'S TERN, and a PARASITIC JAEGER were all reported
from Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on September 15th.
3 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen in Hampton Harbor and 1 was seen near
Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, all on September 14th.
An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER were seen in Hampton
Harbor on September 14th, and 2 STILT SANDPIPERS were seen in Meadow Pond in
Hampton on September 14th and 15th.
2 YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen on September 15th, and 7
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen on September 14th, all near Cross Beach
Road in Seabrook.
2 GLOSSY IBIS, 15 GREAT EGRETS, 2 GREEN HERONS, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON,
and 63 SNOWY EGRETS were seen in Philbrick Pond marsh at the Rye and North
Hampton town line on September 14th.
A GREAT EGRET and 3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL were seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord
on September 14th.
A RUDDY TURNSTONE, 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 3
DUNLINS, and 4 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were reported from the coast on
September 16th.
24 KILLDEER were seen flying together at the wastewater treatment plant in
Penacook on September 15th.
4 RED CROSSBILLS were seen at the Monson Center Reservation in Milford and
Hollis on September 16th.
5 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Etna on September 15th.
An AMERICAN PIPIT was seen on Mount Washington on September 16th.
A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen in Hanover on September 14th.
There were many migrating warblers and vireos reported during the past week,
including PHILADELPHIA VIREOS, TENNESSEE WARBLERS, and WILSON'S WARBLERS.
RAPTOR migration is under way with 4,972 raptors already reported from the
Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and 1,253
reported from the Carter Hill Observatory in Concord. Be sure to visit these
observatories this fall season to help out with the count!
