Early morning Cove Rd walk: FOY Eastern Wood-peewee. Indigo Bunting!

Someone mentioned less variety in migrants this spring? I miss the chestnut-sided warblers. Otherwise about same. We have had dueling Veery’s from multiple treetops. Silent now, but replaced by multiple Redeyed Vireos, loud. On today’s walk - Northern Parulas, Pileated WP, Least Flycatchers. Eat those black flies. Tree swallows nesting in duck house. That’s ok, eat those black flies.

In the yard we have no feeders, but a small cup of grape jam I stuck in a suet cage and take in at night (yes, I know this can be frowned on). Orioles and catbirds come, and a chickadee. Thought maybe the chickadee was just scouting around, but it has been back several times and seems to be eating. No ants or bugs that I can see on the little cup of jam.

On Goose Pond, 2 pairs of loons, one pair with nest and eggs, early. About a mile away a pair on and off floating artificial nest platform where there was a successful nest last year.

Off topic, but would be interested to know if anyone has seen bats this year.
