This is a reminder notice that Mascoma Chapter of New Hampshire
Audubon has arranged a hawk watching trip to Pack Monadnock on
Saturday September 15, 2012. Carpoolers are to meet at 8:30 AM in the
commuter parking lot off River Road in Norwich adjacent to the Ledyard
Bridge. We'll return to that lot in late afternoon, thus allowing as
much as several hours at Pack Monadnock, one of the premier hawk-
watching sites in New Hampshire and New England. Mid September is
typically the time for a major southward movement of Broad-winged
Hawks, but other species are also likely. A NH Audubon hawk watcher/
guide will be present at Pack Monadnock. Bring binoculars, scopes,
drinking water, and lunch. NH Audubon does not charge for this
excursion which is open to the public, but there is a $4.00 admission
fee for the NH State Park (NH residents over 65 admitted without
charge). Additional information is available at
http://www.nhaudubon.org/locations/raptor-observatories
and
www.mascomabirds.org
If the weather that day is unfavorable for sighting migrating hawks,
this field trip is to visit alternative locations in the Connecticut
River valley, looking especially for migrant waterbirds and landbirds.
