This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, June 3rd, 
2009.



A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on May 28th.



3 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and a BLACK TERN were all seen from Pulpit Rocks in 
Rye on May 28th.



2 BLACK TERNS and an ARCTIC TERN were seen on the Connecticut River in 
Hinsdale on May 29th. A BLACK TERN and 4 COMMON TERNS were seen here on the 
28th.



10 ROSEATE TERNS, a RAZORBILL, 5 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, and 20 NORTHERN GANNETS 
were seen on a cruise to the Isles of Shoals on May 30th. Birds seen on Star 
Island included a MERLIN, a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, 8 YELLOW-BELLIED 
FLYCATCHERS, a PHILADELHIA VIREO, a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, 2 CAPE MAY 
WARBLERS, 2 MOURNING WARBLERS, 3 WILSON'S WARBLERS, and a GRASSHOPPER 
SPARROW.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, and a LAWRENCE'S WARBLER were reported from Yudicky 
Farm/Southwest Park in Nashua on May 30th. A LAWRENCE'S WARBLER was also 
seen at The Nature Conservancy Lamprey River Preserve on Packers Falls Road 
in Durham, also on May 30th.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was found at the Concord Community Gardens off of 
Clinton Street on May 29th, but has not been relocated.



2 LEAST TERNS, 50 SANDERLINGS, 200 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, a WHITE-RUMPED 
SANDPIPER, 23 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, and 25 COMMON TERNS were seen at Seabrook 
Beach on May 30th.



17 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 100 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 20 DUNLIN, 2 LESSER 
YELLOWLEGS, 250 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 20 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 7 
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, and a BONAPARTE'S GULL were reported from the 
southern Connecticut River valley area on May 28th. 31 SHORT-BILLED 
DOWITCHER'S were seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plan on May 29th.



4 PIPING PLOVERS were reported from Hampton Beach State Park on June 2nd.



Both NELSON'S and SALTMARSH SHARPTAILED SPARROWS were reported from The 
Nature Conservancy Lubberland Creek preserve in Newmarket on May 28th.



2 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS were reported from Albany on May 28th.



A BICKNELL'S THRUSH, a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 2 GRAY JAYS, and 4 BOREAL 
CHICKADEES were seen on the Caps Ridge Trail on Jefferson Notch Road on May 
31st.



At the Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson, a BLACK-BACKED 
WOODPECKER has been found regularly on the trail between Cherry and Little 
Cherry Ponds, and 2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS, 2 MOURNING WARBLERS, and a RUSTY 
BLACKBIRD were reported from the Refuge on May 30th.



7 GRAY JAYS, a BOREAL CHICKADEE and 2 BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS were reported 
from East Inlet in Pittsburg on June 1st.



2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS and 2 OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS were seen on the Zealand 
Trail in Crawford Notch on May 31st.



2 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS and several WHIP-POOR-WILLS were heard at the Mast 
Yard State Forest in Concord during the past week. COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were 
reported from several locations during the past week.



A dark-morph BROAD-WINGED HAWK was seen in Durham on May 31st.


2 pairs of MISSISSIPPI KITES have been located in Newmarket near the same 2 
sites where they nested in 2008. For directions, check the May 27, 2009 Rare 
Bird Alert.



A SANDHILL CRANE has returned to Monroe, where it has spent the breeding 
season for the last 10+ years running. It spends most of the day among the 
cows on the left side of Plains Road in the first fields that you come to. 
Sometimes it is found on the Vermont side of the river. It has not been 
reported recently.
