New birds for 2009 for me this morning (March 17) here in Norwich  
village were a "V formation" flock of about 35 Canada Geese overhead,  
flying northward, roughly paralleling the Connecticut River, and a  
Song Sparrow here in the backyard.

My earliest spring record for Canada Goose in Norwich for previous  
years was on March 9, 2000. The earliest spring date on which I have  
found a Song Sparrow in Norwich has been on March 10 in three  
different years (2000, 2006, and 2007}.
