The highlight of a meandering bushwhack to Bashon Brook wetlands and 
environs in Hartland this morning was a stridently calling Yellow-billed 
Cuckoo at the edge of a regenerating logged area, <100 yards from a 
singing Yellow-throated Vireo (in the exact spot where I had a bird last 
June). The wetlands themselves were quiet - no bitterns or rails heard - 
though 2 winnowing snipe were overhead. This is a great area, but it is 
private property, much of which is posted, so I recommend discretion for 
anyone deciding to visit it.

The Orchard Oriole pair is still at Skyline Nursery off Ferry Road in 
Weathersfield-Bow. The male is a yearling, and he sang actively while I 
was there, in close company with the female for 2-3 minutes.
