At 1:45pm today, a female hooded merganser guided her very small (and yes, cute) brood (10 I think?) from Rinker Pond in Hanover across Route 10, and down the embankment to the Connecticut River. Rinker Pond is just down the hill from the former Chieftain Inn site. Thank you to the cars that stopped to make way for the mergansers! The chicks moved incredibly fast behind their mother; I was enjoying the moment so much that I failed to pull out my cell phone to get a photo; sometimes you just have to watch.
