This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, October 6th,
2010.
A SABINE'S GULL was located near Arrowhead Point at Newfound Lake in Bristol
on October 4th, and seen again on the 6th. A distant black-hooded gull was
seen in the same area on the 6th, but its identity was undetermined.
A WESTERN KINGBIRD that was first seen on Meaderboro Road between Farmstead
Road and Shady Lane in Farmington on September 29th, has been seen there
several times since then, and was last reported on October 2nd.
A DICKCISSEL was seen in Hampton Beach State Park on October 3rd.
A CASPIAN TERN and a LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER were seen in the Hampton Harbor
area on October 2nd, and 3 HUDSONIAN GODWITS and 7 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS
were seen here on the 3rd.
2 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on
October 2nd, and one was seen from Ten Rod Road in Farmington on September
29th.
24 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, and 5 BLUE-WINGED TEAL were
reported from the Hinsdale Setbacks on the Connecticut River, and 10
BLUE-WINGED TEAL were seen in Charlestown, all on October 2nd.
A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen in Hampton, and one was seen in Keene, both on
October 3rd.
19 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen at Morrill's Farm in Penacook on October 3rd.
14 AMERICAN PIPITS were reported from Chickering Farm in Walpole on October
3rd.
A FOX SPARROW was seen in Durham on October 3rd.
A GREAT EGRET was seen in Horseshoe Pond in Concord on October 6th.
8 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen along Island Path in Hampton on
October 3rd.
5 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen at a birdfeeder in Rumney on October 2nd.
A BICKNELL'S THRUSH was reported from Penacook on October 3rd.
An EASTERN SCREECH-OWL was reported from Goffstown on October 6th.
RAPTOR migration is under way with over 9,500 raptors already reported from
the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough since August
24th. The peak flight days were on September 18th, with over 3,400 raptors
seen on that day, and September 19th, with nearly 1,800 raptors seen then.
Observers have also been counting migrating raptors from the Carter Hill
Raptor Observatory in Concord with over 2,000 reported since September 1st,
including over 900 tallied on September 18th. Be sure to visit these
observatories this fall season to help out with the count and participate in
the excitement!
