This evening on my nightly Dog walk around Parcel 5, I heard a
Whip-poor-Will! It was about 8:30, dark enough that I was having some
trouble seeing the path, but not so dark that I had to feel my way. I had
just heard a Barred Owl hooting, which was nice, but not really unusual, but
then I heard a string of 4 or 5 "Whip-poor-WILL"s in a row. That was it for
the rest of my walk, which lasted another 20 min or so. Maybe it wasn't
quite awake yet?
I don't know how common Whip-Poor-Will's are in this neighborhood, but I
don't remember having heard one anywhere in a long time, so I was pretty
excited about it! Hope Owls don't eat Whip-Poor-Wills!
