Judy & I went kayaking this beautiful afternoon on the Connecticut River, putting in @ the East Wilder Rd. boat launch on the NH side. The Merlins that Chris Rimmer & Kent McFarland observed earlier in the week were active. One was staying pretty close to the tall snag on the NH side, with the 2nd behaving more like an adult, making a couple forays out and back. They both converged above us at one point and appeared to transfer a morsel in midair, with the recipient flying back to the snag making a very rapid noisy call.

Plus: One Blue-winged Teal with a youngster in same area, traveling right under overhanging foliage at riverbank. Another Blue-winged Teal with a youngster was spotted upriver with 8 Mallards.
A pair of Great Blue Herons flew above us and then "perched" in a pair of hemlocks side by side.
An active pair of Spotted Sandpipers.
1 Great Crested Flycatcher calling.
2 Scarlet Tanagers calling.
Numerous Eastern Kingbirds , Red-eyed Vireos, and Eastern Wood Pewees
