This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, June 11th, 
2014.



A HARRIS’S SPARROW was reported from Star Island, one of the Isles of 
Shoals, on June 8th but has not been relocated.



 A probable WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen and photographed in North Hampton on 
June 9th, but it has not been relocated.



2 MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen in Newmarket on June 8th.



2 SANDHILL CRANES have returned to their summering grounds in Monroe and can 
sometimes be seen in fields along the Connecticut River north of town and 
also in fields along Plains Road.



An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER was discovered off of Bennett Road in Durham on May 
24th, and was seen several times since then. It was last reported on June 
7th. It has been seen and heard singing less than 1-mile from Route 108 on 
the north side of the road, among scattered alders in a field and near a 
small pond.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was reported from Arboretum Drive at Pease 
International Tradeport on June 7th.



A LEAST BITTERN was calling from the marsh located near Surrey Lane in 
Durham on June 7th.



An ARCTIC TERN was seen off of the coast of Rye on June 8th.



A NELSON'S SPARROW was reported from Philbrick Pond marsh in North Hampton, 
and 6 SALTMARSH SPARROWS were reported from Hampton Marsh, all on June 7th.



5 PURPLE MARTINS were seen from Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on June 7th, 
and 3 were seen in coastal Rye on the 10th.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER nest with 2 adults present and young-birds heard 
begging was reported from the Caps Ridge Trail off of the Jefferson Notch 
Road in the White Mountains on June 7th. Also present was a BOREAL 
CHICKADEE, 2 BICKNELL’S THRUSHES and a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER nest with 2 adults present and young-birds heard 
begging was reported from the west side of Trudeau Road, about seven-tenths 
of a mile from Route 3, in Bethlehem on June 8th.



A BICKNELL’S THRUSH was seen and several were heard on Cannon Mountain in 
Franconia Notch on June 8th.



A MOURNING WARBLER, a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, and 
2 BLACK GUILLEMOTS were reported from Star Island, one of the Isles of 
Shoals, on June 6th



A MOURNING WARBLER was reported from Goodhue Hill in Hancock on June 8th, 
and 1 was reported from Pawtuckaway State Park in Nottingham on the 7th.



A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was heard calling along Hurricane Mountain Road in 
North Conway on June 7th.



A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS was reported from Jackson on June 7th, and a 
pair was reported from Sutton on June 8th.



4 FISH CROWS were reported from Nashua on June 7th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from Durham on June 8th.



WHIP-POOR-WILLS were reported from Concord, Freedom, Wilmot, and Rumney, 
during the past week.
