This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, May 13th, 2019.



A TRUMPETER SWAN was discovered at NH Audubon’s Abe Emerson Marsh in Candia 
on April 13th, has continued being seen there, and was last reported on May 
11th.



A SANDHILL CRANE was seen in Rochester on May 9th, and 1 was seen in 
Millsfield on the 10th.



A COMMON MURRE was seen on Star Island, one of the Isles of Shoals, on May 
8th, and a different one was seen there on the 12th.



A CASPIAN TERN was seen in Rochester on May 10th but has not been relocated, 
and at least 2 were seen along the coast during the past week.



2 LEAST TERNS were seen along the coast on May 11th.



11 COMMON TERNS were seen at Spofford Lake in Chesterfield on May 10th, 54 
were seen at Great Bay on the 11th, and at least 200 were seen along the 
coast during the past week.



5 BONAPARTE’S GULLS were seen on the Connecticut River in Charlestown on May 
11th, 1 was seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on the 8th, and 2 were 
seen at Spofford Lake in Chesterfield on the 10th.



A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was seen from Pulpit Rocks in Rye on May 10th.



Inland sightings of SEMIPALMATED PLOVER during the past week included 1 in 
Penacook on May 11th, 4 in Sandwich on the 10th, and 1 in Charlestown on the 
10th.



At least 1 pair of PIPING PLOVERS has started nesting on the coast.



A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was reported from the Dillant-Hopkins Airport in 
Swanzey on May 11th, and an UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen in Newington on the 
8th.



A SUMMER TANAGER was seen in Hampton on May 11th, and 1 was seen in Swanzey 
on the 8th.



There was an unconfirmed report of a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT heard on the 
trails at Federal Hill in Milford on May 7th.



There was an unconfirmed report of a LARK SPARROW seen at West Locke Road in 
Concord on May 9th.



GRASSHOPPER SPARROW reports during the past week included 1 at the Karner 
Blue Easement in Concord on the 12th, 2 at the Concord Airport on the 9th, 2 
at Cemetery Fields in Amherst on the 11th, and 2 at the old Hinsdale Raceway 
on the 8th.



A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen near the Squam Lakes Natural Science 
Center in Holderness on May 9th. There were several AMERICAN BITTERN 
sightings from scattered locations during the past week.



A HORNED GREBE was seen in Swanzey on May 10th, and a RED-NECKED GREBE was 
seen on the Connecticut River in Hanover on the 9th.



2 BRANT were seen at the coast on May 11th.



3 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Enfield on May 10th, and several were seen 
in Newbury on the 10th.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen on the Little Cherry Pond trail in the 
Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on May 12th.



An estimated 700 TREE SWALLOWS were seen at Cherry Pond and Hazen’s Pond in 
Jefferson and Whitefield on May 11th.



New spring arrivals reported during the past week included: SORA, SOLITARY 
SANDPIPER, SWAINSON’S THRUSH, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, TENNESSEE WARBLER, CAPE 
MAY WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART, CANADA WARBLER, WILSON’S 
WARBLER, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, ALDER FLYCATCHER, WILLOW FLYCATCHER, 
LINCOLN’S SPARROW, and ORCHARD ORIOLE.
