About 3PM on Sunday, I saw a pileated woodpecker in the Centerra
Marketplace parking lot near Lake Sunapee Bank. The bird was on
the ground intently tossing aside bark mulch with a side to side
flip of its beak at the base of a 6" sugar maple.
This odd behavior led me to wonder if the bird was saying to
itself: "...tastes like a tree, smells like a tree, easiest
pecking I've ever done, but where are the bugs?"
