Large flock of Cedar Wax Wings gently twittering and feeding on the very large Common Hackberry at the southwest corner of the campus for Historic Homes for Runnemede in Windsor. They rest on short adjacent trees too so easy to see close up. This goes on in bursts of activity well into spring, with large flocks of robins at times too.

This tree is behind the garage and maintenance dept building, and a very lovely tree. I read that our own distant human and pre-human ancestors, like Ardi (Ardipithecus) fed on these fruits. Though there isn’t much flesh on each berry, the seeds are very nutritious with protein and fat. I read that our ancestors probably pounded them to make a nutritious paste, to avoid breaking their teeth.
