I'll throw my two-cents-worth in and agree that this is an immature black-crowned night heron. The spotting on the wing coverts clinches it, and the head and neck proportions are more like BCNH than yellow-crowned, or bittern for that matter. Also, as Jeff points out, perching on the hammock is more night-heron like behavior. Wonderful and unique photo! Thanks for sharing.
