Yesterday I was enchanted to see 5 juvenile wood ducks, from the Occum Pond Wood Duck Family, foraging on the forest floor on the north side of the pond in the trees between the water and the road.
They were all dark grey with their lovely eye rings. They made very little noise on the crispy leaf floor, but they moved all together as a group and I must have noticed the movement as I walked by.
I’ve never seen wood ducks foraging on land before. And I was so happy to see that there were at least 5 survivors!
Amy
