This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, May 8th, 2017.



A female RUFF (also known as a REEVE) was seen in Hampton Marsh behind 
Little Jack’s Restaurant on Route 1A in Hampton on April 30th and May 1st. 
It was last reported from Meadow Pond in Hampton on May 3rd.



A SANDHILL CRANE was seen in Lee in farm fields located on Route 155 at 
Coppal House Farm on May 2nd, and was last reported on the 7th.



A CATTLE EGRET was seen at Pickering Ponds in Rochester on May 7th.



An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON was first seen in Errol on May 5th, and was 
still present on the 8th. To look for the bird, park by the bridge over the 
Androscoggin River on Route 26 just east of town, and walk west on Route 
26/16 back towards town and the school for viewing. Today it was behind the 
church across from the school (please be cautious of the school). The bird 
may possibly be viewed by walking the snow mobile trail that follows the 
river from the parking area by the river mentioned above.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, and a LAUGHING GULL were seen at Eel Pond in Rye 
on May 7th.



A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at the Seabrook side of Hampton Harbor on May 6th.



2 CASPIAN TERNS were seen flying over Eel Pond in Rye on May 6th.



2 ROSEATE TERNS were seen along with about 50 COMMON TERNS near Seabrook 
Beach on May 6th, and a COMMON TERN was seen at the Connecticut River in 
Hinsdale on the 6th.



An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was seen in Hampton Marsh on May 3rd.



A RUDDY TURNSTONE, several SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and several SEMIPALMATED 
SANDPIPERS were seen along the coast during the past week.



6 PIPING PLOVERS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on May 5th.



19 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS and 6 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS were seen at Mink Brook in 
Hanover on May 6th.



A RED-THROATED LOON was seen on Lake Sunapee on May 4th, and 4 BONAPARTE’S 
GULLS were seen here on the 2nd.



6 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 5 GREATER SCAUP, and 3 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS 
were seen on Moore Reservoir in Littleton on May 2nd.



3 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, and 4 BUFFLEHEADS were seen at Boston Lot Lake 
in Lebanon on May 5th.



A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was seen near Hampton Marsh on May 7th.



A HOODED WARBLER was seen at Juniper Hill in Claremont on May 5th.



A CAPE MAY WARBLER was reported from Penacook on May 7th.



A BLUE-WINGED WARBLER was reported from Turre Pond in Bow on May 2nd, and 1 
was reported from Old Keene Road in Walpole on the 8th.



A SWAINSON’S THRUSH was reported from Keene on May 4th, and 1 was seen in 
Hampton on the 7th.



A RED-EYED VIREO was reported from Milford on May 4th, 1 was seen in 
Nottingham on the 5th, and 1 was seen in Hampton on May 7th.



An EVENING GROSBEAK was reported from Lyman on May 2nd.



A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was reported from Hillsborough on May 1st, 1 was 
reported from Enfield on the 3rd, and 1 was seen in Keene on the 4th.



A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was reported from North Sandwich during the past week..



7 PURPLE MARTINS were seen in Seabrook on May 6th.



A BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from Keene and 1 was reported from 
Pittsfield, both on May 3rd.



A pair of KILLDEERS was seen with 3 chicks at Rye Harbor State Park on May 
3rd.



A few BOBOLINKS and RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were reported from scattered locations 
during the past week,



A SORA, a VIRGINIA RAIL, and an AMERICAN BITTERN were reported from NH 
Audubon’s Thompson Sanctuary on May 5th, and another trio of the same bird 
species was reported from the Keene Airport wetlands on the 6th.
