This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for October 3, covering the period
September 27 - October 2, 2008.  

 

The birding highlight of the week was a GOLDEN EAGLE seen at Dead Creek on
10/2.

 

Several COMMON LOON sightings occurred off Grand Isle this week:  62 birds
on 9/30, 7 on 9/28 and 9/29, 23 on 9/27 and 12 on 9/20.

 

On the morning of October 3 there were 1,000 SNOW GEESE and 2,000 CANADA
GEESE at Dead Creek.

 

A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was spotted in Addison along Jersey Street on 9/27 and
9/28.

 

A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen in Danby on 9/27.

 

The following warblers are among the latest of their species to migrate
through Vermont:  TENNESSEE WARBLER (1 in Brandon on 9/28); BLACK-THROATED
GREEN WARBLER (2 in Ludlow on 10/2, 6 at Shelburne Bay on 10/1,1 in
Hinesburg on 10/1, and 1 in Brandon on 9/30; BLACKPOLL WARBLER (1 at Dead
Creek on 10/2) and WILSON'S WARBLER (1 at Charlotte Town Beach).

 

In Pine Hill Park in Rutland on 9/29 a CARDINAL was observed feeding two
young.
