This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, April 18th, 
2016.



A WESTERN GREBE was discovered foraging in the ocean just south of Great 
Boar’s Head in Hampton on April 14th, and has been seen regularly since 
then. It was last reported on April 18th. 4 RAZORBILLS were seen here on the 
14th.



A female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was seen foraging near the entrance to the Pease 
Golf Course in Portsmouth on April 9th, and on several days after that, and 
was last reported on the 15th. It was usually seen in the company of 2 
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, often perching on the chain link fence around the 
perimeter of the airport. If you look for the bird, be sure to keep clear of 
the fence by at least 5 feet.



A SANDHILL CRANE was seen at World End Pond in Salem on April 14th. A pair 
of SANDHILL CRANES has returned to Monroe and was last reported on March 
27th. The birds are most often seen in farm fields along Plains Road. If you 
look for the birds, please look from the road and do not enter the fields.



A SNOWY OWL continues to be seen in Rye Harbor State Park area and was last 
reported on April 15th. A SNOWY OWL was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on 
the 17th. When viewing a Snowy Owl please do not disturb the bird by 
approaching too closely, and please respect private property. For more:

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was reported from Nashua on April 15th.



7 SNOW GEESE were seen in Little Cherry Pond at New Hampshire Audubon’s 
Pondicherry Wildlife Sanctuary in Jefferson on April 13th.



4 RED-NECKED GREBES were seen in Lower Kimball Pond in Chatham on April 
18th.



2 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were seen at Otter Pond in Georges Mills on April 
14th, and 1 was seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on the 12th.



5 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, and 2 AMERICAN WIGEONS were seen at Great Meadow in 
Charlestown on April 17th.



A NORTHERN SHOVELER and an AMERICAN COOT were seen at the Exeter Wastewater 
Treatment Plant during the past week.



A NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen at Elmbrook Park in Hopkinton on April 16th, and 
a pair was seen at Reed’s Marsh in Orford on April 12th.



A pair of GADWALL was seen in East Kingston on April 16th.



A EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen along with 225 GREEN-WINGED TEAL at 
Meadow Pond in Hampton on April 17th.



4 PIPING PLOVERS and an AMERICAN PIPIT were seen at Hampton Beach State 
Park, and 5 NORTHERN GANNETS, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 40 
PURPLE SANDPIPERS, and 60 DUNLIN were seen along the coast, all on April 
17th.



3 GLOSSY IBIS and a SNOWY EGRET were seen in Rye south of Odiorne Point 
State Park along Route 1A, and a GREEN HERON was seen in Nashua, all on 
April 18th.



A flock of 60 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was seen in Northwood on April 14th, a flock 
of 60 was seen in Hanover on the 18th, a flock of 40 was seen in Newport on 
the 16th, a flock of 30 was seen in Sunapee on the 14th, a flock of 30 was 
seen in Gilford on the 16th, 3 were seen in Meriden on the 13th, 12 were 
seen in Lee on the 18th, and several were seen in Laconia during the past 
week.



An EVENING GROSBEAK was seen in North Conway on April 18th, and 1 was seen 
in Lincoln on the 17th.



A SPRUCE GROUSE was reported from Dummer on April 15th.



A female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen near Little Cherry Pond at the 
Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on April 15th.



A BLUE-HEADED VIREO was seen in Hopkinton on April 17th, and 1 was reported 
from Hinsdale on the 18th.



2 LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSHES were reported from Wilton on April 14th, 1 was 
heard at Oyster River Park in Durham on the 17th, 2 were seen at the 
Pickering Ponds in Rochester on the 17th, and 1 was reported from Lebanon on 
the 18th.



Several BARN SWALLOWS, BROWN THRASHERS, FISH CROWS, VESPER SPARROWS, WILSON’S 
SNIPES, and VIRGINIA RAILS were reported during the past week.
