This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, August 2nd,
2007. 

A WESTERN GREBE was found on Squam Lake on July 21st, and was reported
again on August 1st. It was most recently found near Little Loon and Yard
Islands. There is access for canoes and kayaks nearby on Route 3, about 1.5
miles east of Holderness, at the Squam Lakes Association headquarters.
There is a $5 parking fee for non-members.  There is access for motorboats
at the state launch in Holderness

A LITTLE GULL was seen on Jenness Beach in Rye on July 28th.

A MANX SHEARWATER, a LEAST TERN, 4 WILSON’S STORM-PETRELS, 10 BLACK
SCOTERS, 2 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and a SURF SCOTER were all seen from Great
Boar’s Head in Hampton on July 28th.

12 WHIMBRELS, 26 WILSON’S STORM-PETRELS and a LAUGHING GULL were seen
flying along the coast on July 28th.

A HORNED GREBE was reported from Foss Beach in Rye on August 1st.

An estimated 1,000 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were seen at Meadow Pond in
Hampton on July 27th.

10 LEAST SANDPIPERS were seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on July 30th.

2 BONAPARTE’S GULLS were seen on Lake Massabesic in Auburn on July 31st.

A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from Barrington on July 29th.

An ORCHARD ORIOLE and a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH were seen at West Foss Farm
in Durham on July 31st.

2 FISH CROWS were reported from Durham on July 27th.

4 MERLIN fledglings were seen at the Rockywold-Deephaven Camp in Holderness
on July 30th.

6 PURPLE MARTINS were seen at the Purple Martin colony at the Maine / New
Hampshire state line on Route 302 in Center Conway on July 31st.

A SORA was reported from the marsh behind the senior center on Beech Street
in Newmarket on July 28th.

16 PIED-BILLED GREBES and 3 BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS were reported from the
Brentwood Mitigation Area on July 30th.
