On a splendid June morning with plenty of sunshine, a pleasant temperature range, and little breeze that early in the day, participants in a bird walk at the Windsor Grasslands Wildlife Management Area in Windsor, VT, yesterday found more than 35 species of birds including a number of species which are uncommon or of localized distribution within the Upper Valley. Among highlights were displaying Wilson's Snipe, a pair of American Kestrels, both Alder and Willow Flycatchers, Eastern Kingbirds, Brown Thrasher, Eastern Bluebirds, 7 species of warblers including Blue-winged and Prairie Warblers, Bobolink, Indigo Bunting, a pair of Eastern Towhees, and sparrows including Field, Savannah, Song, and Swamp.

Our appreciation goes to all  participants for their help in finding and identifying birds on this walk arranged by the Mascoma Chapter of New Hampshire Audubon, to Blake Allison for obtaining Vermont Fish and Game authorization #21213 for use of the area, to coleader Ed Hack, and to Susan Tiholiz, who kept the field list. An eBird list for the walk is to be forthcoming and to appear in the Windsor County, VT, lists for June 22.

Additional information about past and future bird walks of the Mascoma Chapter can be seen at http://www.mascomabirds.org
