This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, February 25th,
2019.
A SNOWY OWL was seen perched on a building adjacent to Hampton Beach State
Park on February 23rd.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen in farm fields along South Road south of the
elementary school in East Kingston on February 23rd, and 1 was seen at a
private residence in Weare on the 19th.
A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen near Great Bay in Greenland on February 23rd.
A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen at the NH Audubon Thompson Wildlife Refuge in
Sandwich on February 22nd, and a MERLIN was seen in Laconia on the 23rd.
A PEREGRINE FALCON and a NORTHERN HARRIER were seen near the coast in
Hampton on February 23rd.
A first winter female DICKCISSEL was seen with a small flock of HOUSE
SPARROWS in bushes at the intersection of Fair Street and Winnisquam Avenue
in Laconia on February 23rd.
A GLAUCOUS GULL continues to be seen at Hampton Harbor and was last reported
on February 23rd.
A GLAUCOUS GULL, and 5 ICELAND GULLS were seen at the Rochester Wastewater
Treatment Plant on February 22nd. The treatment plant is gated and the hours
of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the
office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have
to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the
road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not
gated, and are always open during daylight hours.
2 DOVEKIES, 39 COMMON MURRES, and 22 NORTHERN FULMARS were tallied in
offshore water by birders on a boat cruise on February 23rd.
A male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen near the Amoskeag Fishways, and 1 was
seen near Stark Landing, both on the Merrimack River in Manchester on
February 23rd.A BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen off of Pulpit Rocks in Rye on
February 20th.
There were a few PURPLE SANDPIPERS, and GREAT CORMORANTS reported from the
coast during the past week.
A flock of 7 PINE GROSBEAKS was seen in Lebanon on February 22nd.
A flock of 17 COMMON REDPOLLS was seen at the NH Audubon Thompson Wildlife
Refuge on February 22nd, and a flock of 21 was seen in Hanover Center on the
24th.
A few BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from scattered
locations during the past week,
A flock of 30 SNOW BUNTINGS was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on February
23rd, and a flock of 20 HORNED LARKS was seen in Walpole on the 23rd.
A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen again in East Kingston on February 23rd.
4 FISH CROWS were reported from Great Pond in Kingston on February 20th.
Lingering migrant species reported during the past week included: RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRD, RUSTY BLACKBIRD, COMMON GRACKLE, WINTER WREN, HERMIT THRUSH,
TURKEY VULTURE, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, NORTHERN FLICKER, GRAY CATBIRD,
SAVANNAH SPARROW, FOX SPARROW, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW.
