This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, August 23rd, 
2011.



An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER, a TENNESSEE WARBLER, a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, 
and a MOURNING WARBLER were seen on Star Island, one of the Isles of Shoals, 
on August 21st.



15 LAUGHING GULLS, a MANX SHEARWATER, and 3 FORSTER'S TERNS were seen in the 
seas between Portsmouth and the Isles of Shoals on August 22nd.



An ARCTIC TERN was seen from Hilton Park on Dover Point on August 22nd.



Birders along the coast on August 20th and 21st reported: a PIED-BILLED 
GREBE, 11 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a SURF SCOTER, a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, 56 SNOWY 
EGRETS, 47 GREAT EGRETS, 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 24 GREAT BLUE HERONS, 
31 NORTHERN GANNETS, 5 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, a PEREGRINE FALCON, 100 
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 42 SANDERLINGS, 12 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 42 LESSER 
YELLOWLEGS, a WILLET, a WHIMBREL, 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 5 RUDDY 
TURNSTONES, a RED KNOT, 9 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 100 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 5 
LAUGHING GULLS, 153 COMMON TERNS, 7 ROSEATE TERNS, 8 LEAST TERNS, 2 
FORSTER'S TERNS, 370 TREE SWALLOWS, 127 BARN SWALLOWS, and 5 SALTMARSH 
SPARROWS.



Over 250 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were tallied at Plaice Cove in Hampton on 
August 20th.



A RED CROSSBILL and a BOREAL CHICKADEE were seen on Wildcat Mountain in 
Pinkham Notch on August 20th.



2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were reported from the West Branch Pine Barrens 
Nature Conservancy property in Ossipee on August 17th. Also of note was an 
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, a PRAIRIE WARBLER, and 42 EASTERN TOWHEES.



More than 10 BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen near the beginning of Scott's Bog 
Road, and a PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen on Big Brook Road, all in Pittsburg 
on August 17th.



203 CHIMNEY SWIFTS, a NORTHERN HARRIER, a FISH CROW, 61 WOOD DUCKS, a GREEN 
HERON, and 9 EASTERN KINGBIRDS were seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on 
August 20th.



A MOURNING WARBLER was seen in Webster on August 23rd.



245 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen in Concord, and 12 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were 
seen in Manchester, all on August 20th.



83 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen near a horse farm located off of West Street 
in Keene, and 125 were seen migrating along Route 127 in Webster, all on 
August 19th.
