This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, February 22nd,
2016.
3 SNOWY OWLS were seen in the Hampton Harbor area during the past week and
were last reported on February 20th. A SNOWY OWL was seen at Rye Harbor
State Park on February 20th, 21st, and 22nd. When viewing a Snowy Owl please
do not disturb the bird by approaching too closely, and please respect

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen flying over Kingston on February 21st.
A THICK-BILLED MURRE was seen in Hampton Harbor, and 1 was seen in coastal
Rye, both on February 21st.
4 RAZORBILLS were seen from Seabrook Beach, and 5 were seen at the coast in
Rye, all on February 21st. 7 BLACK GUILLEMOTS were seen at the coast on
February 15th.
A female BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen off of Bicentennial Park in Hampton on
February 21st.
4 GREATER SCAUP, 3 LESSER SCAUP, 3 AMERICAN WIGEON, and a female NORTHERN
PINTAIL were seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on February 21st,
and 4 NORTHERN PINTAILS were seen at the coast in Rye on the 20th.
A pair of AMERICAN WIGEON was seen on the Powwow River in Kingston, and a
pair of WOOD DUCKS was seen in Rochester, all on February 21st. A GADWALL
was seen in Rye on the 21st. 5 AMERICAN WIGEONS and a NORTHERN PINTAIL were
seen on Great Bay on February 21st.
A GLAUCOUS GULL continues to be seen at the Seabrook side of Hampton Harbor,
and 1 was reported on Eel Pond in Rye, both on February 20th.
An ICELAND GULL was seen at Great Island Common in New Castle on February
20th.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Swasey Park in Exeter on February
20th, and a BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was seen in Hampton Harbor on the 18th.
16 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen in Rye Harbor on February 21st.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at the Strafford County Complex in Dover, and 1
was seen at the Flagstone Industrial Park in Newport, both on February 21st,
and 1 was seen in Stratham on the 22nd.
Over 400 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and over 100 CEDAR WAXWINGS were reported
foraging in fruit trees in downtown New London during the past week.
A flock of 15 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was seen in Lyme on February 22nd, and
4 were seen in Sunapee Harbor on the 18th.
12 PINE GROSBEAKS, a COMMON REDPOLL, 2 GRAY JAYS, 9 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS,
2 RED CROSSBILLS, and numerous PURPLE FINCHES and PINE SISKINS were reported
from Pittsburg during the past week..
A BOREAL CHICKADEE was reported from near the summit of Wildcat Mountain in
Pinkham Notch on February 15th.
6 RED CROSSBILLS and 2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen in Chatham on
February 20th, and 2 RED CROSSBILLS were seen in Second College Grant on the
21st.
9 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Milan on February 17th.
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen with 28 HORNED LARKS at Landing Road in Hampton
on February 15th.
A flock of 33 SNOW BUNTINGS was seen at the Parlin Airfield in Newport on
February 18th, and a flock of 15 was seen at the Pease International
Tradeport in Portsmouth on the 15th.
A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen in South Sutton on February 21st, a NORTHERN
GOSHAWK was seen in Silver Lake on the 15th, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen
in Salem on the 20th, and a NORTHERN HARRIER was seen in Rye on the 20th.
2 PEREGRINE FALCONS were reported from Nashua on February 21st, and a MERLIN
was reported from Hanover on the 17th.
Several BALD EAGLES were reported during the past week.
A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was heard in Lebanon, 1 was heard in Chatham, and 1
was heard in Bow, all during the past week.
An EASTERN SCREECH-OWL was reported from Salem on February 17th.
A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in Plaistow on February 18th.
A BELTED KINGFISHER was seen in Chichester on February 19th, and 1 was seen
in Sunapee on the 18th.
2 TURKEY VULTURES were seen in Hollis, and 2 were seen in Greenland, all
during the past week.
A FIELD SPARROW was seen in Hollis during the past week.
An AMERICAN WOODCOCK was seen in Walpole on February 22nd.
An EASTERN MEADOWLARK was seen in Hampton on February 21st.
Several FISH CROWS, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and COMMON GRACKLES were reported
during the past week.
