This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, August 29th, 
2016.



2 adult MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen feeding a chick in Newmarket several 
times during the past week.



A SANDHILL CRANE has been seen somewhat regularly in a hayfield along Route 
127 in West Hopkinton since July 19th and was last reported on August 24th.



8 CASPIAN TERNS were seen along the coast on August 28th.



A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was seen briefly at the Exeter Wastewater 
Treatment Plant on August 25th, but has not been relocated.



A BAIRD’S SANDPIPER was seen at Marsh Pond along Marsh Road in Rye on August 
24th to 26th, and 2 STILT SANDPIPERS were seen here on the 28th.



2 STILT SANDPIPERS were seen at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant on 
August 25th and 26th. The treatment plant is gated and the hours of 
operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the 
office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have 
to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the 
road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not 
gated, and are always open during daylight hours.



3 RED KNOTS were seen at Hampton Harbor on August 26th, and 6 WHITE-RUMPED 
SANDPIPERS were seen here on the 27th.



3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 VIRGINIA RAILS, 2 GREAT EGRETS, and a BLUE-WINGED 
TEAL were reported from World End Pond in Salem on August 27th. A SORA was 
found here on the 28th.



Birders on a boat cruise around the Isles of Shoals reported a MERLIN, 2 
BLACK GUILLEMOTS, a BLACK SCOTER and 8 RUDDY TURNSTONES on August 29th.



4 YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 25 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 249 GREAT 
EGRETS, 78 SNOWY EGRETS were tallied at the coast on August 28th.



A GREAT EGRET has been seen every day in Concord during the past week.



A REDHEAD was seen at World End Pond in Salem on August 23rd.



A RUDDY DUCK was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on August 
10th, has been seen several times since then, and was last reported on the 
24th.



2 PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen in Concord, 1 was seen in Nashua, and 1 was 
seen in Charlestown, all during the past week.



2 OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS were seen in Randolph on August 26th.



Single migrating CAPE MAY WARBLERS were reported from Sunapee and Pittsfield 
during the past week.



COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen migrating during the past week. High counts 
included: in Concord 278 on August 23rd, 485 on the 24th, 229 on the 25th, 
2,014 on the 26th, and 2,344 on the 27th; 400 in Newport on the 24th, 265 in 
Keene on the 27th, 350 in Hanover on the 24th, 207 in Hanover on the 25th, 
and 556 in Nashua on the 27th.



A flock of 32 TURKEY VULTURES was seen in Nashua on August 27th, and a flock 
of 35 was seen in Farmington on the 29th.
