This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, October 19th, 
2011.



A NORTHERN WHEATER was seen and photographed near the summit of Mount 
Moosilauke on October 11th. Also seen were a GOLDEN EAGLE, an AMERICAN 
GOLDEN-PLOVER, 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 5 AMERICAN PIPITS, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 
and several RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS.



A female BLUE GROSBEAK was seen at the Concord Community Gardens off of 
Clinton Street in Concord on October 3rd, 5th, 7th, 13th, and was last 
reported on the 14th. Numerous sparrows have also been seen in the gardens, 
including WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and LINCOLN'S SPARROWS.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE continues to be seen at the Freemont Conservation Land on 
Old Jaffrey Road in Peterborough, and was last reported on October 14th.



2 DICKCISSELS were seen in fields along River Road in Stratham on October 
19th, and a DICKCISSEL and 9 BOBLINKS were seen at Great Bay Farm in 
Greenland on the 16th. A DICKCISSEL, a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, and an EASTERN 
TOWHEE were seen in the fields behind the Concord Post Office on Loudon Road 
in Concord on October 15th. The DICKCISSEL was relocated on the 16th.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, and an AMERICAN WOODCOCK were seen at Odiorne Point 
State Park in Rye on October 15th.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen at the end of Depot Road in Hampton Falls on 
October 16th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen in Dummer on October 13th, and one was seen 
at the Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on October 15th.



A LAPLAND LONGPUR was seen along the edge of Eel Pond in Rye on October 
15th.



A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen in a weedy field next to the softball field 
at Russell Martin Park, located off of Iron Works Road in Concord, on 
October 16th.



7 FORSTER'S TERNS and 4 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen in Hampton on 
October 15th.



7 RUDDY DUCKS, 2 SURF SCOTERS, and 200 GREATER SCAUP were seen on Great Bay 
on October 16th.



A GREAT CORMORANT was seen flying over Concord on October 15th.



A PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen on Merrymeeting Marsh in Alton on October 17th.



A WARBLING VIREO was seen in Penacook on October 15th, and a WILSON'S 
WARBLER was seen in Penacook on the 17th.



8 AMERICAN PIPITS were reported from the Edward MacDowell Dam in 
Peterborough on October 13th, and 26 were seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord 
on the 16th.



2 GRAY JAYS were seen at Mud Pond at the Pondicherry National Wildlife 
Refuge in Jefferson on October 13th.



Highlights of a birding trip to Star Island, one of the Isles of Shoals, 
included: a NORTHERN FULMAR, a SEDGE WREN, a BLUE GROSBEAK, a CLAY-COLORED 
SPARROW, and a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD. Also reported were 10 GREAT 
SHEARWATERS, 7 GREAT CORMORANTS, 110 NORTHERN GANNETS, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 
a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 2 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, a WINTER WREN, a MARSH WREN, a 
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, a HERMIT THRUSH, a GRAY CATBIRD, a NORTHERN 
MOCKINGBIRD, a BROWN THRASHER, 25 CEDAR WAXWINGS, 4 BLACK-THROATED BLUE 
WARBLERS, 75 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 3 BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, 5 PALM 
WARBLERS, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 4 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, a NORTHERN CARDINAL, 
an EASTERN TOWHEE, 6 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, 3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, 5 SWAMP 
SPARROWS, 3 DARK-EYED JUNCOS, and a PURPLE FINCH.



Nearly 14,000 raptors have been reported from the Pack Monadnock Raptor 
Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and nearly 10,000 have been reported 
from the Carter Hill Raptor Observatory in Concord, all since September 1st. 
Species reported include GOLDEN EAGLE(5 from Pack Monadnock, so far), BALD 
EAGLE, OSPREY, NORTHERN HARRIER, AMERICAN KESTREL, MERLIN, PEREGRINE FALCON, 
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, COOPER'S HAWK, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, 
BROAD-WINGED HAWK, and RED-TAILED HAWK. Be sure to visit these observatories 
this fall season to help out with the count!



There were also several sightings of GOLDEN EAGLE from Little Round Top in 
Bristol during the past week.
